Even a Jack Ass...

...doesn't step in the same hole twice, right? I beg to differ. Lately I've been kicking myself because I just seem to make the same mistakes over again, in several areas of my life! Exhibit A: my car. My car got broken into recently week. Obviously it's not my fault some idiot smashed my window and ripped out my entire dashboard, but maybe I could have prevented it by taking off my face plate. This has happened to me twice before in my driving career, and after both times I was really good about taking the face plate off my stereo (yes, I have a sweet after-stock stereo with a face plate) everytime I get out of the car. But after a while, I start to forget and fall back into my old ways. I do it all the time - I stay up late, knowing my morning self will hate my night self. I procrastinate, I lose my credit card, I lock my keys in my car, and I spend too much money on something I shouldn't. I do it in my relationships too, fall into the same type of guy, act the same way, but still hope there will somehow be a different outcome.
There is a song I love by Nada Surf, and in it it says:
"They say you learn from your mistakes, that's not always the case. I see them and I understand how I made them again and again."
So, this is what I've decided -- while I may not learn enough from mistakes to quit making them, at least I'm learning. And eventually...we'll get it right ;).

But seriously, the face plate is coming off from now on....

  1. Yeah, so I've also had my window smashed in......twice. And my nice after market stereo stolen.....twice. Funny thing is, the last time it happened the car next to mine was unlocked, with the window down, and the stereo face in plain site. Oh, to make it worse they were too amateur to actually steal the stereo so they just took the face, and completely jacked my dash and stereo trying to get it out. So don't feel alone in the "getting your car stereo jacked twice" department!
